
Research Assistant – Cancer Immunology (Laboratory-Based)

Join a nationally recognised research team working on cutting-edge cancer immunotherapy at the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD). We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Research Assistant to support a range of laboratory experiments as part of our translational cancer immunology program. These will include T-cell cloning, flow cytometry, tissue culture, molecular biology, and general laboratory experiments.
This position is offered at 0.8 FTE on a 12-month contract and employed by the Institute for Respiratory Health, a leading not-for-profit research institute based at the QEII Medical Centre.
About the Role
You will work under the supervision of senior research academics to support experimental research in tumour immunology. Your responsibilities will include:
· Maintaining human and mammalian cell lines
· DNA and RNA extraction from clinical and experimental samples
· Performing laboratory assays including RT-PCR, ELISpot, Western blot, and flow cytometry
· Supporting the collection of clinical samples and obtaining informed consent from study participants
· Maintaining accurate experimental records and assisting with manuscript preparation
· Contributing to general laboratory maintenance and team support
About You
You will be a motivated and organised individual who thrives in a team-based research environment. You will bring:
· A degree with Honours in biomedical science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
· Experience with immunological and molecular biology techniques (e.g. ELISpot, PCR, flow cytometry)
· Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills
· Strong written and verbal communication
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Previous experience with tissue culture, clinical sample processing, or research governed by Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or ethics approvals will be highly regarded.
