Role Description: This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join a dynamic team on Sydney's North Shore. You will play a vital role in the financial operations of our client's business process solutions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. The role requires a hands-on approach, strong analytical skills, and a solid background in the financial services sector. You will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, managing client trust accounts, and leading a junior accounting team member, contributing to the organisation's strategic financial planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review accurate financial statements, with a strong emphasis on mortgage processing/servicing bank transactions, requiring a hands-on approach.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry-specific standards relevant to mortgage processing and insurance, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, including journals and reconciliations, with detailed focus on mortgage portfolio reconciliations, requiring a hands-on approach.
  • Monitor and analyse financial data related to mortgage settlements, disbursements, and insurance claims, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Develop financial models to track the profitability of mortgage servicing lines and insurance products, requiring strong analytical and detail-oriented skills.
  • Manage the financial aspects of client trust accounts related to mortgage transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance, with a hands-on approach.
  • Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff (1), delegating tasks effectively, with a focus on mortgage processing workflows, requiring hands on management.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members, ensuring accurate mortgage account management and attention to detail.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities, specifically for mortgage processing volumes and insurance premium calculations, requiring detailed analysis.
  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls and process improvements, including bank reconciliations, with a focus on mortgage servicing financial controls, requiring a hands-on approach.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate and timely financial reports to management, and manage payroll accounting, with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate advanced Excel proficiency, ensuring efficient and accurate data analysis and reporting, particularly for large mortgage data sets and insurance calculations, and display a background within insurance, or a minimum of financial services.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CA qualification is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in a senior accounting role, preferably within the financial services or insurance sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and financial regulations.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience in financial modelling.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
