What you will be doing

Preparing and cutting meat

Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in the work environment

Assisting with inventory management and ordering of supplies

Providing excellent customer service and product knowledge

Ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations

Be fit and healthy – as the work can be physically demanding and require heavy lifting (up to 25kg), bending and standing for long periods of time

What we're looking for

Formal butchery qualifications or equivalent experience

Strong knowledge of meat cuts, preparation techniques and handling procedures

Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work well in a team

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality

Flat rate, above award - plus superannuation - based on experience

About us

The Chop Shop NQ is located on Mornington Island, Gununa which is in the Gulf of Carpentaria, about 444km north of Mount Isa and 28km off the coast of mainland Australia. The island is serviced by a barge weekly and is accessible by air.

Mornington Island is a first nations community, and the Lardil people are the traditional custodians for the land. The island is inhabited by the Lardil, the Yangkaal, the Kaiadilt people, the Gangalidda people, along with the many visitors and workers. Mornington Island is very much an intercultural community.

The role itself is a very unique and rewarding role, and you will have the opportunity to experience a part of Australia that is normally hidden away. You will have the opportunity to learn the local languages and be welcomed into a community.
