The Company
Our client is a leading cultural institution, with a strong focus on research, public engagement, and educational outreach. They play a pivotal role in fostering dialogue on Australia’s past, present, and future, engaging a diverse audience across various platforms! Due to internal mobility, our client is currently looking to engage an experienced HR leader on a three month fixed term contract. This opportunity has the potential to extend and is best suited to a candidate with previous federal government or cultural sector expertise.

The Leaders
Our client’s leadership team is composed of experienced and visionary individuals who bring diverse expertise from various fields. They are dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes inclusive dialogue, challenges conventional thinking, and advances the institution’s mission. This role reports to the Head of People & Culture who is currently stepping up into a Directorate role. You will partner closely to ensure the balanced distribution of work, and she will retain most of the strategic output.

The Opportunity
As the P&C Manager, you will oversee and manage the P&C business unit, providing guidance and support to ensure the efficient delivery of HR, including recruitment, learning, payroll, and health and wellbeing. You will be a key point of contact for the HR team, offering expert advice and guidance on various HR matters to internal leaders whilst fostering a supportive and effective work environment. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading and managing the People and Culture business unit including direct reports of 5 with an over-arching team of 13
  • Overseeing HR functions such as recruitment, engagement, performance, compliance, payroll and safety
  • Providing support to direct team members, ensuring effective HR service delivery
  • Collaborating with senior leadership to provide HR support and solutions for operational needs
  • Managing HR processes and ensuring the HR function operates smoothly and efficiently
  • Offering advice on employee relations, performance management, and day-to-day HR operations
  • Reporting and providing insights to leadership including presenting the People & Culture Report

About You
We are looking for an experienced People and Culture leader with extensive experience in managing HR functions and supporting the development of a positive workplace culture. You are someone who thrives in a leadership role, providing guidance and advice to your team while ensuring the smooth operation of key HR processes, such as recruitment, payroll, and workforce planning.

You bring a strong understanding of government or cultural sector practices and have a genuine commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace. Your communication and stakeholder engagement skills are exceptional, allowing you to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and provide HR solutions that align with the organisation’s operational needs. You have the ability to manage day-to-day HR operations while driving continuous improvement and ensuring the HR team is equipped to meet the goals.

There will be a one stage interview with the client before an immediate start. The salary on offer is commensurate with experience and within the target range of $155K - $165K + super. This contract may extend beyond of 3 months, however for at least the first 4 weeks must concur to a 4:1 hybrid ratio in Canberra, progressing to a 3:2 hybrid ratio. Police and other pre-employment checks will be carried out prior to onboard.
