About the role
The Strategic Lead – Workforce (SL-W) is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the ANMF’s national work program focusing on workforce reform under the direction of the Senior Industrial Officer (SIO) and in collaboration with the ANMF’s Federal Elected Officers, Federal Executive and ANMF Branches. Under the direction of the SIO, the SL-W is responsible for providing strategic leadership and advice on political, industrial, policy and campaign opportunities to achieve the ANMF’s workforce priorities and secure wins for members. Under the direction of the SIO, the SL-W is also responsible for providing expert support, guidance and education on workforce matters to ANMF Federal Office teams, Branches and members as required.

Benefits
This is a permanent position to join our federal strategic programs and engagement team. Flexible work arrangements, including hybrid working from home is available.
The ANMF offers generous conditions of employment, including a starting full-time equivalent (FTE) salary of $134,000 plus 15.5% superannuation, in accordance with the ANMF Appointed Staff Enterprise Agreement.

What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will have the following essential criteria:
• Tertiary qualifications in nursing, including a relevant post-graduate qualification or equivalent experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the nursing and midwifery workforces and relevant legislation, and the Australian health and aged care systems.
• Sound knowledge of contemporary industrial relations and professional practice frameworks for nursing and midwifery and experience in application of these frameworks.
• Sound understanding of the factors influencing supply and demand, recruitment and retention of nurses, midwives and care-workers, including the role of migration.
• Experience in nursing practice, education, management or research.
• Understanding of union principles and culture and ability to translate these into political, policy and campaign strategies for change on issues affecting the workforce.
• Capacity to identify important issues for the nursing, midwifery and care-worker workforces and for research, critical analysis and evaluation to reach sound conclusions and provide viable options for action.
• Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, establish organisational priorities, and use initiative to provide advice and support to team leads, and elected officials.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team, in a complex environment involving multiple stakeholders.
• Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Commitment to the ANMF’s values and strategic priorities and the national interests of nurses, midwives and carers.
• Commitment to the trade union movement.
