The Sound Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining audio equipment to ensure high-quality sound production for live events, recordings, broadcasts, and multimedia presentations. This role involves technical expertise in audio systems and requires coordination with performers, directors, and production teams to achieve desired audio outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Set up and test audio equipment for events, broadcasts, and recordings.

Monitor audio levels and quality during live performances or recordings.

Troubleshoot audio issues and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.

Coordinate with performers, directors, and other technical staff.

Record, edit, and mix audio tracks.

Maintain and inventory audio equipment.

Ensure compliance with safety and technical standards.

Provide technical support during rehearsals and performances.

Main tasks:

Setup microphones, speakers, and cable configurations.

Operate mixers, equalizers, and other audio processing equipment.

Monitor audio feeds to ensure sound quality.

Adjust sound levels during live events and recordings.

Perform regular maintenance on audio equipment.

Diagnose and repair faulty audio components.

Collaborate with production team for sound requirements.

Store and transport audio equipment safely.

Keep logs of equipment usage and maintenance.

Update software and firmware for digital audio devices.

Relevant qualifications:

A qualification in audio engineering, sound production, or a related field is typically required. This can include a Certificate IV, Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in Audio Production or Sound Engineering. Relevant on-the-job experience may also be considered.

Relevant skills:

Proficiency in audio equipment operation.

Knowledge of sound recording and reproduction principles.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.

Communication and coordination skills.

Attention to detail.

Time management.

Understanding of safety standards.

Technical aptitude with software and hardware.
