About the role:

To provide support and assistance to the Communications Team to ensure the achievement of the goals and objectives outlined in the Strategic Communications and Marketing Plan.

The Communications Officer is supervised by the Manager, Engagement and Communications, and the position has no supervisory responsibilities.

This position works closely with other members of the Corporate Support team and maintains regular contact with other program staff to ensure effective outcomes for clients.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provision of photography and editing services and develop the organisation’s library of images for use in publications.
  • Produce compelling content and effective layout for a variety of print, digital and social media channels, using Adobe Creative Cloud and or other design-based software.
  • Coordinate organisational website content and gain WordPress development assistance from internal (e.g., IT Team) and external (e.g., Mindwire) sources where necessary to ensure quality and contemporary content.
  • Design and prepare files and print specifications for suppliers of publications.
  • Assist with the development and distribution of organisational videos, brochures, newsletters, annual reports and other in-house publications.
  • Coordinate organisational merchandise, liaising with program areas and suppliers ensuring brand consistency.
  • Assist with the development of resources to market health programs and community events and ensure consistency of branding and designs.
  • Maintain a current awareness of industry and technology standards, the competitive landscape, and market trends.
  • Gather and record statistical data relevant to measuring performance against agreed indicators and participate in review and evaluation activities.
  • Participate in organisational and community activities to advance the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Work within Wuchopperen’s Policies and Procedures including the Staff Code of Conduct and the Work Health and Safety requirements and contribute to continuous improvement processes to ensure compliance with relevant standards and safe, effective service delivery.

Core Capabilities:

For applicants to be successful in this role, they should demonstrate:

  1. High level graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Cloud (or other design software) to develop high quality, professional content, together with skills and experience in photography and editing for the reproduction and use in communication and marketing materials.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures from an historical and contemporary perspective, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  3. Extensively developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders as well as effectively advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines, deal with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
  5. Well-developed data collection and analysis skills including the ability to interpret the needs of the community to effectively communicate or promote health services.
  6. Demonstrated ability to meet and work within the core values and behaviours of Wuchopperen.

Qualifications and experience:

Photography, editing and graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Cloud (or other design software)

Requirements:

  • Hold a current Blue Card (for suitability to work with children and young people).
  • Proof of qualifications is required to be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
  • Possess a current driver’s licence.
  • A commitment to adhere to Wuchopperen’s policies and procedures.
