The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of experienced and driven electrical inspectors where you can apply your considerable leadership, technical expertise and knowledge in a compliance and regulatory environment.

This role will see you lead a team that conducts audits and inspections of selected electrical installations to identify defects and deter non-compliance within the NSW residential and commercial building sector. By carrying out this important regulatory function, the team contributes to improving building standards for the benefit of the people of NSW.

The Role

Leading a team of electrical inspectors, you will apply your experience and in-depth knowledge of the wiring rules and service installation rules (Electrical installations (Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules 3000:2018)) to conduct comprehensive compliance-based audits and inspections of buildings in NSW.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead a diverse team of technical inspectors in a regulatory environment focused on compliance with electrical installations.
  • Develop, schedule, and have oversite of both desk and site-based audits and inspections.
  • Lead the review of program documentation.
  • Monitor compliance and conformance of electrical installations.
  • Draft and review inspection reports, statements, briefs of evidence and other documentation including briefings and Regulatory Orders
  • Make recommendations regarding any regulatory action that may be required to achieve compliance.
  • Play a leading role to develop, test and embed effective audit tools, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to the input of advice and development of codes and standards relevant to electrical installations.
  • Collaborate with your colleagues across the team, Building Commission NSW and the Department and lead in bringing awareness and education to the industry.
  • Effectively use technology, analyse data and understand risk.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Be an effective, experienced and results orientated people leader.
  • Expert knowledge of the wiring rules and service installation rules (Electrical installations (Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules 3000:2018)), and the ability to apply this knowledge to complex inspections and investigations.
  • Current NSW qualified supervisor - electrical license, equivalent or possess the required qualifications to obtain relevant licence.
  • Experience in the various electrical installation types, including renewable energy.
  • Be technically competent and detail focused.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation.
  • Have highly developed communication skills, including the ability to write, review and produce high quality reports and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Hold a Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or have completed an equivalent level of related training or prepared to complete.
  • Act with the highest degree of integrity and professionalism.
  • Play a leading role to develop, test and embed effective audit tools, policies, and procedures.
  • Be committed to safety and enjoy working in a dynamic and results driven environment.
  • Hold a current NSW driver's license and have the ability and willingness to travel across NSW as required.
