About This Opportunity

The primary function of the Senior Network Engineer is to provide high-level engineering support for The University communications network. This is a position that requires experience providing technical and analytical services to projects, some project management, and specification and budgetary planning.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Design, implement, install, and maintain network infrastructure, while researching new technologies to improve services.
• Provide technical consultations to clients, including non-technical matters like staff selection and committee participation.
• Lead and supervise project teams, investigate and evaluate new systems, and ensure compliance with relevant University policies.
• Promote and ensure adherence to UQ's Cyber Security Policy, procedures, and standards.

About You

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronic, or computer engineering (or related field) with extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• Broad knowledge of general computing, including networking and infrastructure concepts.
• Cisco CCNA certification or extensive hands-on experience with deploying and supporting Cisco network infrastructure hardware.
• Expertise in the analysis, design, development, operation, and maintenance of modern communications infrastructure, with experience in areas such as network security, IP telephony, disaster recovery planning, MPLS, and wireless LAN.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Organised, methodical engineering approach to work, ensuring attention to detail and efficiency.
• Strong client service ethic, with the ability to work independently or as part of a small team to meet objectives with minimal guidance.
• Desirable: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP), professional membership (e.g., IEEE), experience leading technical teams, and exposure to quality management, service management, and project management methodologies.
