About You

The Quality Assurance and Practice Officer is responsible for driving, coordinating and implementing practices and activities which increase quality assurance and compliance responsibilities SSI has to and with children, families, carers and other stakeholders.

The Quality Assurance and Practice Officer works with caseworkers and managers to monitor, review, and facilitate practices that meet the accreditation requirements and Department of Community Services (DCJ) service delivery contract responsibilities in caring for children in foster care or case managed through the Multicultural Child and Family Program (MCFP) permanency activities

The Quality Assurance and Practice Officer assists in reporting on child-focused permanency standards, child wellbeing outcomes and analysing data to maintain high practice standards assisting children meet their safety and wellbeing outcomes.

The Quality and Assurance and Practice Officer provides coaching, auditing, reporting, remediation guidance and other practical mentoring functions to ensure the MCFP casework and case management activities consistently meet the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) permanency standard compliance indicators and that children’s wellbeing measures are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Internal quality auditing - Work with Permanency Support Program (PSP) and Quality, Innovation and Practice (QIP) team members to undertake quality audits and analyse activities within the program.
  • Creating and reviewing policies, procedures, and support documents – ensure MCFP documents in the policy library are in line with legislative, regulatory, contractual requirements while meeting the OCG Standards for Permanent Care, DCJ Policy requirements and SSI’s overarching policies, values and philosophy.
  • Mentoring and coaching – provide formal mentoring with PSP staff on referral.
  • Training and reflective practice - Creation (where required), facilitation and evaluation of training delivered to PSP staff as part of continuous quality improvement (CQI). Reflective practice both informally with staff and formally in Communities of Practice (COP).
  • File Reviews – Collation and analysis of data in file review as per the requested referral rationale from PSP management.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement – actively participate and ‘lean into’ CQI activities to improve overall practice and systems to support better outcomes for children, carers and families.
  • Incident Report monitoring – review each incident report and compile a monthly summary and analysis report for management.
  • Build strong relationships with teams – each Quality and Assurance and Practice Officer is allocation one or two teams to support. They will be responsible for providing information and updates about CQI activities.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or Social Science or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in child protection or out of home care or related child and family sector
  • Experience working with DCJ or a similar government agency.
  • Understanding of and experience in the field of casework assessment and training within permanency support programs and/or Out of Home Care and/or child protection.
  • Knowledge of the OCG Permanency Standards.
  • Well-developed operational, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills, including well-developed influencing and stakeholder management skills.
