About the role

The Student Engagement Officers within Oorala are dedicated to supporting the success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at UNE by delivering culturally safe support and engagement initiatives. The roles focus on building and maintaining strong relationships between students and staff across UNE, providing support from enrolment through to graduation for both online and on-campus students, with a majority studying remotely.

As part of the Oorala Student Experience Team, the roles provide:

  • Student facing administrative systems support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with a focus of navigating UNE processes and platforms.
  • Referrals to specialised UNE services, including Targeted Tutorial Assistance, Student Enrolments and Progressions, Student Accessibility and Wellbeing, Scholarships, and Faculties.
  • Assistance with UNE student engagement and support projects under the guidance of Oorala Leadership staff.

The Student Engagement Officer's aim is to boost student participation, support course completion, and strengthen connections with UNE through various projects and campaigns. The broader goal of the Student Experience Team is to support students through culturally safe services, improve and promote access to UNE support systems, and foster a vibrant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student and staff community.

About you

We are seeking 2 engaging individuals with outstanding customer service skills and excellent communication abilities across various channels, including face-to-face, phone, email, and online forums. The ideal candidate will understand the challenges affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in higher education and a commitment to supporting their success. Experience in campaign or project support is highly regarded as the role also provides administrative assistance for both routine and tailored projects that align with student needs and outcomes.
