Coastal Sands has been an independent supplier of high-quality sand products to Southeast Queensland for decades.
Conveniently located mid-way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, near the M1 highway, our site allows us to efficiently supply sand to a range of industries including construction, landscaping, civil engineering and recreational facilities.
Coastal Sands supplies sand that meets rigorous Australian Standards, ensuring reliability and safety across all applications. Our sand complies with the Australian Standard for Concrete Aggregate and Concrete Products (AS1141), making it suitable for high performance concrete and masonry applications.
Beyond concrete, our sand supports a wide range of building and landscaping needs including:
- Fine sand
- Brick and block laying sand
- Coarse sand
- Soft fall sand
- Top dressing sand
- Bio-Retention sand
Key responsibilities & duties
Reporting to the Board, the Operations Manager is responsible for oversight and general management of the downstream division of the Coastal Sands quarry operations.
This includes:
- Full responsibility for the performance of the downstream operations.
- Leading a culture of continuous improvement in the downstream operations including planning and overseeing operational activities, cost and budget controls and oversight of contractor activities on site.
- Management of the relationship with the operators of the upstream quarry operations including the sand dredge, wash plant, conveyor tower and sand stockpiling.
- Management of the various functions of the downstream office operations.
- Working with the downstream office team to ensure efficient operation of all administrative functions of the office such as ordering, invoicing and compliance.
- Managing and coaching direct reports including sub-contractors.
- Providing feedback, observations and suggestions to the Board for business strategy, budgets and annual business plans.
- Providing functional leadership in all aspects of business activities including identifying and modifying work requirements as may be required, ongoing people management, overview and implementation of methodologies, systems and processes as required in the business and as may need to be revised and updated from time to time.
- Management of the weighbridge operations.
- Customer relationship management in conjunction with setting direction for the Sales Manager.
- Product pricing and setting margin targets.
- Achieving sales volume targets.
- Expenses control.
- Sand Bagging operations.
- Ensuring health and safety is of the highest priority and that there is compliance to the HSEQ management system and legislative/regulation requirements.
- Asset management including preventative maintenance programs.
- Ensuring compliance with all related industry and statutory licencing requirements and standards.
- General site maintenance.
- Fire Ant Control compliance and managing the accredited contractor to ensure that all compliance measures are met.

Qualifications and Work Experience
- A degree or diploma in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering or other related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management/senior supervisory role.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and solve problems.
- Experience in the extractive industry sector in Australia would be an advantage.
- Ability to direct/execute several projects simultaneously with a proven track record of success.
- Ability to motivate and manage staff and contractors while fostering a continuous improvement environment.
- Knowledge of HSEQ compliance and regulations in the mining and extractive industry sector.
- Project management and contract management skills would be an asset.
- Effective negotiation, planning, organising and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and provide recommendations to the Board on budgets and forecasts.
- Evidence of ability to manage direct reports and subcontractors including an emphasis on coaching and developing teams.
- Must be fluent in English both oral and written.
- Demonstrated familiarity in the use of Word, Excel, Share Point, Power Point, Xero, and other systems is required.
