About the Position

We have an exciting opportunity at Hackham West Community Centre for a passionate community development practitioner to effectively coordinate and develop community initiatives, projects and activities in partnership with the Board of Management at this busy and diverse community centre.

Reporting to the Coordinator Community Centres, as part of the Community Development team, this role provides a community development approach, utilises capacity building and strength-based strategies to empower community members, enhance wellbeing and create stronger and more connected communities.

The role works closely with the centre's Board of Management, staff and volunteers.

About You

The right candidate will bring highly developed people skills, including an ability to connect, communicate respect and empower people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You are results-focused and committed to making a difference in people's lives, bringing a calm and methodical approach to managing the diverse requirements of a community centre environment.

You have extensive experience using community development approaches to achieve positive outcomes across multiple projects and can consistently deliver exceptional customer service while working well both autonomously and as part of a team.

Experience within a community facility, community centre, or similar setting and knowledge of the local community are advantages.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Proven experience in Community Development, particularly in centre-based initiatives.
  2. Understanding of latest developments, trends and challenges facing the community.
  3. Proven ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Highly developed communication skills, including dispute resolution and negotiation skills.
  5. Flexible approach to problem-solving, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  6. Sound knowledge and experience working with volunteers.
