Join the Shire of Capel as our Ranger Services Coordinator and lead a dedicated team in delivering effective compliance, community safety, and education initiatives that enhance the wellbeing of our residents.
The Shire of Capel is located in the South West, halfway between Bunbury and Busselton. We are nestled between the beach and the forest and are one of the fastest growing coastal Shires in Australia. The Ranger Services Coordinator is responsible for providing strong leadership, supervision, and support to Community Rangers, contractors, and volunteers, ensuring effective service delivery within the Shire’s policies and procedures. This includes planning and scheduling work, performance management, recruitment, training, and overseeing compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations, and Local Laws. The role also involves strategic oversight of Ranger Services, ensuring fair and consistent enforcement, effective animal control, and coordination of legal proceedings. Additionally, the position requires active engagement in community safety initiatives, complaint resolution, and the development of public education programs to promote awareness and compliance.
In addition to operational responsibilities, the role requires proactive community engagement, problem-solving, and fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Councillors, community groups, and government agencies. The Ranger Services Coordinator will also contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures, monitor budgets, and ensure efficient administration of Ranger Services. A key focus is on continuous improvement, ensuring that programs, resources, and personnel are effectively managed to enhance the safety, wellbeing, and service experience of the Shire’s residents.

- Base annual salary from $90,000 per annum dependent on skills, experience, and qualifications
- Annual leave loading of 17.5%
- Up to 14% Shire superannuation contribution

To be considered for this role you will be able to demonstrate:
- Behaviour that positively demonstrates the Shire’s HEART of: Honesty, Empathy, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory investigations and legal procedures related to Ranger Services
- Previous experience as a Community Ranger or Law Enforcement Officer, with a strong understanding of compliance and enforcement
- Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate people, resources, and workflows to achieve objectives
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to advise, educate, and coordinate individuals and teams
- Proficiency in policy and procedure development, ensuring clarity, compliance, and operational effectiveness
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite (Word & Excel)
- Strong documentation, report writing, and record-keeping capabilities with attention to detail
- Ability to accurately interpret and apply legislation in practical and operational contexts
Attainment of Regulatory Officer Compliance Skills (ROCS) 1 and 2 and proven ability to identify, evaluate and mitigate risks effectively will be highly regarded.
