Broome Youth and Families Hub has an opening for one male Youth Support Officers in our Reconnect and Youth Housing program. Our Youth Support Officer will provide case management intervention to young people aged 12-25 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We’re looking for candidates who can coordinate an accessible, fast, mobile, and flexible service. The role includes working with the families of young people, providing referrals to supporting agencies where appropriate, and reconnecting young people with either training, education, or employment, as well as the broader community. Key Duties

  • Develop case plans in consultation with each client and conduct regular reviews specific to the needs of the individual.
  • Assist homeless youth to develop the skills and strategies to return home, where it is practicable and safe.
  • Assist homeless youth to develop independent living skills, where appropriate.
  • Advocate for the inclusion of eligible clients onto housing and priority housing lists.
  • Assist the young people to create ongoing positive family relationships
  • Ensure referrals are made to address factors such as mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse, and disability, etc.
  • Assist clients to set individual goals and develop the strategies to achieve them.
  • Ensure practice is client-centred, strengths-based, and solutions-centred.
  • Maintain an understanding of contemporary issues in the Kimberley region within the context of local Aboriginal culture and the community services sector.
  • Observe and respect cultural protocols within the organisation.
  • Ensure a proactive service approach to ensure strong client - service relationship

Skills and Experience

We want you to be successful in your new role! This means you'll have:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of culture in the Kimberley region
  • Case management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of issues affecting youth
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people
  • Understanding of community development principals
  • Demonstrated experience planning, implementing and evaluating programs and/or activities
