About Wirrimanu Aboriginal Corporation (WAC)

WAC proudly serves the Traditional Custodians of the Balgo community, focusing on the Tjurabalan People. We are dedicated to empowering and supporting the Kukatja, Walmajarri, Jaru, Pintupi, and Warlpiri language groups through a range of community-led initiatives.

About Balgo Community

Balgo, also known as Wirrimanu, is one of Australia's most remote Aboriginal communities, located in the southeast Kimberley region of Western Australia within the Shire of Halls Creek. Home to approximately 460 residents, the community predominantly speaks Kukatja, a Western Desert language, along with Walmajarri, Jaru, Pintupi, Warlpiri, and Kriol.

Situated between the Great Sandy and Tanami Deserts, Balgo is a vibrant and culturally rich community that reflects the resilience and heritage of the Aboriginal people. As the Assistant Youth Program Manager, you will have the unique opportunity to play a key role in fostering cultural connections, addressing youth justice issues, and shaping a brighter future for Balgo’s youth, working closely with the Youth Program Manager.

Position Overview

Are you passionate about empowering young people and strengthening communities?

We’re looking for a dynamic Assistant Youth Program Manager to support the development, management, and delivery of three impactful community programs alongside the Youth Program Manager:

  • Indigenous Junior Rangers Program
  • Wirrimanu Youth Service Program
  • Community Led Prevention Services Program

These programs are designed to create meaningful change through early intervention, cultural healing, and fostering strong family relationships. Together, they aim to reduce youth involvement in the criminal justice system and tackle social challenges like family violence.

In this exciting role, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with the Youth Program Manager to coordinate and deliver culturally significant programs that engage young people and promote positive life outcomes.
  • Work hands-on with youth affected by social challenges, providing essential case management and support.
  • Build strong connections with Elders, Traditional Owners, and community members to ensure programs are culturally relevant and community driven.
  • Organise youth engagement activities focused on behavioural change, emotional regulation, and cultural healing.
  • Forge partnerships with local schools, police, and service agencies to strengthen program delivery and increase positive outcomes for young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing, coordinating, and delivering the Indigenous Junior Rangers Program, the Wirrimanu Youth Service Program, and the Community Led Prevention Services Program.
  • Provide case management for youth affected by family violence and other social challenges.
  • Collaborate with Elders, Traditional Owners, and service providers to ensure cultural safety and community involvement.
  • Support the planning and execution of youth engagement activities that promote emotional and cultural well-being.
  • Build and maintain relationships with police, schools, and local organisations to ensure the success of youth programs.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Development, or equivalent experience.
  • A deep understanding of working within Aboriginal communities and a commitment to cultural safety practices.
  • Experience in youth work, case management, or community service delivery, particularly with at-risk youth.
  • A passion for driving positive change in the lives of young people and their families.

Program Objectives:

  • Deliver a community-led prevention service focused on early intervention, family support, and cultural healing.
  • Engage youth in Balgo through culturally relevant programs that build strong family relationships and improve life outcomes.
  • Reduce youth involvement in the criminal justice system by fostering positive behaviours and strengthening community ties.
  • Collaborate closely with WAC and the Youth Program Manager to ensure the effective delivery of youth programs.

What We Offer:

  • Salary Package: Competitive remuneration of $75,000 to $95,000 per annum pending on experience, plus superannuation. Salary packaging options are available.
  • Annual Leave: Five weeks of annual leave, with an additional 17.5% leave loading.
  • Benefits: A travel allowance of $5,000 per annum is provided after a qualifying period, along with other attractive benefits.
  • Mobile Phone: A company phone will be provided for work purposes.
  • Accommodation: Fully furnished and heavily subsidised accommodation, including internet, electricity, and water.
  • Future Development: A supportive work environment with opportunities for skill development and growth.
  • Personal Growth: The chance to make a meaningful and positive impact on the Wirrimanu community.
