About the role:
Dy-Mark are currently seeking a Workplace Health, Safety and Environmental Officer to join our manufacturing facility based in Wacol, QLD. Reporting to the Head of People Strategy and Compliance, you will be the main point of contact for WHSE matters for our group of entities.
The main purpose of this position is to build and maintain a positive culture regarding all aspects of health, safety, and the environment (WHSE) with a view to minimizing risks to all workers, contractors and customers through the implementation of our Health and Safety Management Systems. You will be responsible for providing expert WHSE advice, guidance and support across multiple sites, with an 80% focus on manufacturing and a 20% focus on our state-based warehouses. You will manage our WHS management systems and ensure compliance with WHSE legislation and ISO requirements.
Duties:
- Conduct regular and thorough safety inspections and audits across all sites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Document findings and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Lead investigations into all workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses. Analyse root causes and develop actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Oversee the management and compliance of dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals. Ensure proper labelling, storage, and handling practices are followed in accordance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Oversee the Work Health and Safety Environment (WHSE) framework, ensuring all policies, procedures, and guidelines are up-to-date and followed by all employees and contractors.
- Monitor and manage the company’s waste disposal, recycling, and pollution control programs. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and strive for continuous improvement.
- Organize and manage contractors for stormwater, underground water monitoring, and gas testing. Ensure results are reviewed and any required actions are implemented.
- Facilitate required WHSE meetings, ensuring that agendas are set, minutes are recorded, and action items are followed up. Promote open communication and cooperation across all levels of the organization.
- Provide expert guidance and support to staff on all WHSE issues.
- Act as a resource for resolving queries and providing practical solutions to safety challenges.
- In consultation with department managers, ensure that all new employees complete WHSE inductions within the allocated timeframes.
- Guide the risk assessment process in consultation with stakeholders, ensuring that hazards are accurately identified and effectively mitigated.
- Serve as the Fire Safety Advisor for all sites, ensuring that fire safety measures are in place, regularly reviewed, and effectively communicated.
Qualifications and skills:
- 7 years previous experience in a similar role.
- Formal certified training as a WHSE professional.
- Demonstrated experience developing Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems
- Familiarity with ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2005 standards
- Dangerous Goods experience will be highly regarded.
- Fire Safety Advisor certification or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to influence and inspire others.
- Previous experience with Pronto ERP or DoneSafe would be beneficial but not essential.
