REMUNERATION PACKAGE: $75 - $85K + super

  • External: Clients, Workers (PALM & Labour Hire), RTO Providers, Department of Education & Training (DET), Insurance Providers, Medical & other service providers

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The primary objective of the WORK, HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER is to ensure the highest standards of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) within EMPAC Group. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining best practices in WHS management, including conducting risk and hazard assessments, facilitating client safety engagement, overseeing incident investigations, and providing safety training to regional operatives. Additionally, the officer will manage injury management, worker’s compensation, and rehabilitation activities, ensuring all actions are in accordance with EMPAC’s systems and procedures. The role also includes accurate data maintenance of safety and risk activities in the corporate database.

ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT:
EMPAC Pty Ltd is part of the TWM Group. We are an approved employer of the PALM (Pacific Australian Labour Mobility) scheme as well as having Labour Hire capabilities servicing Manufacturing & Heavy Industries, Waste & Industrial Services.

KEY TASKS: Monitoring Compliance and Reporting

EXPECTED RESULTS

• Monitoring of all required WHS system compliance as assigned.
• Coordinate ISO Accreditation in WHS for EMPAC
• Conduct and assist field staff with incident investigations and the development/implementation of corrective actions with key client representatives.
• Measuring and communicating WHS performance to Operations Manager
• Participation in regular risk and hazard assessments, workplace inspections and ensure improvements resulting from such are actioned within required timeframes.

Injury and Claims Management

• Support the injury management, return to work of FTMs and vocational rehabilitation process
• Strict monitoring and compliance with Return to Work Plans.
• Monitor and report overall injury management and return to work progress, delays/issues in RTW of workers and any barriers with medical or service providers effecting overall IM performance.

Technical Advice and Support

• Provision of technical safety and risk advice to internal team members and clients on all WHS related issues.
• Provide support to Account Managers in assessing the risk and hazard profile of current and potential clients, provision of control measures and action plans to mitigate identified risk.

Client Relationships and Business Development

• Develop and foster strong working relationships with peer WHS practitioners and all key stakeholders on client sites in conjunction with the responsible Account Managers.
• Undertake regular monthly travel to client sites under an agreed schedule as approved by Operations Manager. Planned schedule to include attendance on sites to complete; pre-start safety meetings, toolbox training sessions, risk and hazards assessments, client engagement with key stakeholders and implement all required safety campaigns as directed.
• Provision of Safety Bulletins and other relevant material to client sites to support active safety engagement and increased awareness of required safety activities to our workers and client key stakeholders.
• Work with and provide assistance to the internal Field Staff in the positive marketing of EMPAC to clients.
• Provision of advice to key customers and clients on all WHS related issues.
• Responding to WHS related information requests from clients in a timely professional fashion.

Client/ Supplier Relationships
• Develop and foster effective working relationships with case managers (insurers), medical providers and client WHS/ Injury Management practitioners.
• Work with and provide assistance to the Regional Risk Manager Team Lead, NRM and BDM’s in the marketing of EMPAC Group as directed.
• Provision of technical advice to key customers and clients on WHS/ Workers Compensation related issues.
• Responding to all regional WHS/ Workers Compensation related information requests from clients and/ EMPAC staff.

Personal Development

• To identify and take opportunities to increase personal levels of knowledge and expertise provided within and outside of EMPAC
• All Meetings and staff briefings are attended as directed.

Qualifications/Experiences

Safety
• Relevant WHS related qualifications (Cert IV WHS, Diploma WHS) preferred;
• Previous experience in either Safety or Training ideally within blue collar industries
• Intermediate Level Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and database systems
• Sound knowledge of relevant state statutory WHS, worker’s compensation and rehabilitation legislations

• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills. High quality report writing is essential together with strong interpersonal skills;
• Strong Analytical and investigative skills.
• Well-developed organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to operate in an autonomous in a high energy busy working environment.
• Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate at respective levels,
• Knowledge and ability to manage WHS related issues:

• Ability to develop and foster relationships with key clients, suppliers and service providers.
• Ability to provide a service that addresses regulatory requirements in conjunction with the need to proactively support a successful, fast growing, private sector business.
• Ability to perform duties of an administrative nature, including demonstrated effectiveness in achieving goals within guidelines and deadlines.
