We are seeking an experienced Remote area nurse whose interset lies in Mental Health to join our Primary Health Care team in this large aboriginal community situated in the Northern Territory. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the mental health and wellbeing of a remote Aboriginal community, working within a multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality prevention and treatment services.
Role Overview:
As a Mental Health Nurse, you will work collaboratively within the Primary Health Care team to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care. You will play a key role in supporting and mentoring community workers, managing client case management with the Top End Mental Health Practitioner, and ensuring that clients access relevant services. Your work will also involve liaising with various local agencies and stakeholders, such as the Family & Community Wellness team and Team Health to ensure integrated and effective care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work within the Primary Health Care team in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality prevention and treatment.
- Deliver comprehensive patient-centered care, with a focus on mental health and wellbeing.
- Act as a key resource and mentor for community workers allocated to the Mental Health program.
- Collaborate with the Top End Mental Health Practitioner to address client case management and clinical needs.
- Ensure clients are referred to and accessing relevant services such as NDIS, Aged Care, and Family & Community Wellness services.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- AHPRA Registered Nurse
- Current Advanced Life Support
- Current Remote Emergency Care (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of or certification in Giving Vaccines (or equivalent)
- Current driver’s license
- Satisfactory criminal history check
- Current NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre card)
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum 5 years of broad nursing experience post-registration and at least 2 years working in a primary health-related field in a remote context
- Proven knowledge of program design and delivery in a primary health care setting
- Strong clinical assessment and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution abilities
- Effective communication skills and proficiency in relevant software
- Understanding of Aboriginal culture or willingness to learn and live in a remote community
