An exciting opportunity for a skilled Risk and Safety Operations Officer who thrives on coaching leaders and driving continuous improvement in workplace health and safety.
The Risk and Safety Operations Officer will work closely with the Risk and Safety team as well as the Council field staff to develop and implement a review of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management system to ensure Council is meeting Risk and Safety objectives. The Risk and Safety Operations Officer will be responsible for educating field staff in policies and processes to minimise emerging issues that will impact operations, compliance and service delivery. You will need to have a strong understanding of WHS legislation and policies to confidently provide accurate advice to staff with opposing viewpoints. Your ability to coach and mentor staff whilst building strong, meaningful and trusting relationships will be key to your success in the role.
To be successful you will need:
- Experience working within and improving Risk and Safety Frameworks and practices in an operational environment.
- Effective incident management skills and knowledge working through a situation to a resolution with skills to identify and engage relevant stakeholders.
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation and statutory requirements at a practical operational level.
- Sound knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012, Local Government Act 1999, Road Traffic Act 1961, Return to Work Act 2014 and other legislation and regulations pertaining to the role.
- Practical and professional approach to problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution.

This is a part-time (0.6FTE), permanent position offered at General Officer Level 4 $86,845.83 - $92,974.99 (pro-rated) under our Enterprise Agreement 2022. Essential position requirements
- This position requires you to hold and provide evidence of a current and valid National Police Check (NPC) before being appointed to the position.
- All employees are required to undertake a pre-employment medical prior to commencement.
