Your day to day
Reporting to the Hotel Manager, you are responsible for developing and maintaining a proactive risk, security and safety program, working closely with the senior operational leadership team to develop a culture of ownership at all levels aligned with the IHG Brand Safety framework, NSW legislation, WorkCover NSW and WorkSafe Australia.
You will be leading and embedding the Safety and Security Programs of InterContinental Sydney Hotel for hotel guests and hotel colleagues, ensuring they are maintained through the implementation of legislatively sound and practicably applied policies and practices.
This is a hands on role, with a mix of strategic work with the ability to implement at operational level. The role will require to work across a variety of shift times as and when needed to support the hotel teams or attend to safety / security matters including sometimes working weekends and evenings.
As the subject matter expert, you will maintain effective stakeholder relationships with the hotel teams and with a business partner mindset, a typical week will include:
- Provide support, advice and direction on all matters related to Safety, Risk & Security to the hotel team
- Managing the safety and risk management program and ensure compliance to IHG Brand Safety Standards
- Cascade the safety, risk & security strategy to operational level, tailoring to the context, risk, and operating environment unique to each outlet and business unit
- Actively participate in Responsible Business Strategy, programs and meetings
- Drive colleague and contractor Safety and Security training, coaching
- Deliver training sessions in relation to risk management, Workplace Health & Safety and emergency procedures
- Ensure all investigations and reports are completed for all guest and colleague incidents such as thefts, loss, accidents and injuries
- Manage the patrols of public areas to detect fires, unsafe conditions and missing or inoperative safety equipment in conjunction with Director of Engineering
- Follow up on daily log entries to ensure security and safety violations have been corrected
- Drive Colleague and Contractor Safety & Security performance through training and mentoring
- Oversee the performance of contractor onsite security
- Responsible for Hotel key control systems and security systems
- Provide special security services for hotel VIPs and during special events
What we need from you
- Experience in the hospitality or service related industries and relevant legislation
- Detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective management of Safety, Risk & Security related risks
- Ability to influence by example; hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in "Safety & Security Leadership"
- High level communication and influencing skills, including the ability to produce quality, concise reports and presentations
- Senior First Aid Certificate or higher
- Demonstrated understanding of WHS practices and principles
- Tertiary degree in a health, safety, security and emergency management or related field (or equivalent experience) is highly desirable
- Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate – NSW
- NSW Class C Security License
- Current Driver’s License
- Knowledge of emergency response systems
- Competent in use of computers and common software packages
- Ability to demonstrate influencing and consultative skills
