About the role
This role is responsible for providing legal advice and insights to the Department’s Corporate Service Division. The role provides solutions-focused advice and legal support on contracts of employment, dispute resolution, employee misconduct and performance management, compliance with the Government Sector Employment Act 2013 and Rules, unfair dismissal claims, Work Health and Safety legislation, Discrimination claims and Industrial matters.
The role is likely to provide legal services in relation to three main streams being either:
- Conducting prosecutions
- Employment Law and legislative reform advice
- Administrative Law

About You
Experience in communicating your legal advice and counsel and operational advice to stakeholders showcasing valuable outcomes for the department will be a must to be successful in this role.
You have experience managing multiple and diverse legal projects, whilst ensuring minimum risk to the department. Developing clear and concise training documents for our stakeholders to assist in engaging with the legal team and broader awareness will also be highly regarded.
In addition, our ideal candidate will have at-least one of the following demonstrated experience or skillset in:
- Employment Law
- Commercial law;
- Trace Practice law;
- Experience in the policy making and legislative process
You do not need to be an expert in all of these areas of law. However, a willingness to develop your skills and experience in areas in which you are less confident, is essential.
You must be admitted or qualified for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW and hold, or be eligible to hold, a NSW Practising Certificate.
