Want to build a dam and help shape the future of water security in Queensland? Join Sunwater as Environmental Lead, where you’ll play a vital role in Paradise Dam Improvement Project.

You will provide professional support to Sunwater, and Paradise Dam Improvement Project in relation to the development, implementation and management of project environmental plans, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and ensuring sustainable practices are in place throughout the project lifecycle.

This position will start by being predominantly office based in the Alliance Project Team and then will move to a site based rostered position when major construction activities commence in 12 – 18 months

As the Environmental Lead at Sunwater, you will:

  • Provide environmental support and advice to project, planning and operational groups within the business to enable Projects to be efficiently delivered with due regard to environmental considerations.
  • Provide advice, develop and implement solutions on management of environmental risks which affect a water supply business and construction projects operating in regional areas, including incident reporting and follow-up.
  • Ensure measures are in place to provide assurance in relation to Sunwater’s and project compliance with the terms of its environmental approvals, licences or permits.
  • Ensure that a fit for purpose Environmental Management Plan and System is implemented, maintained and continuously improved in accordance with requirements and undertake related reviews and audits.
  • Monitor and analyse changes or proposed changes in environmental legislation, regulations and environmental protection policies while promoting awareness on changes and environmental protection policies and strategies.

We are seeking a talented individual with a proven track record in environmental project management. You will hold tertiary qualifications in in a relevant environmental discipline (e.g. environmental science, environmental engineering, sustainability) and have demonstrated experience of working in an environmental management team in a water service provider or construction projects environment. You will also bring:

  • Environmental expertise: Proven skills within environmental management practices of commercial business organisations in the construction industry, including an understanding of sustainability, environmental legislation, natural resources management and current industry practices and technology
  • Systems & Assurance nous: Maintenance of ISO-accredited environmental management systems and ability to undertake of audits to provide assurance regarding compliance with standards and environmental approvals and licences
  • Communication skills: Excellent communication, demonstrating interpersonal and negotiation skills to help foster and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
