Who What Y?

The Y NSW is a profit-for-purpose organisation focused on healthy living, social impact and empowering young people. We operate 18 recreation centres, 47 out-of-school-hours care services, and two camping locations which employ 1,500 staff across NSW - and fund our diverse range of enriching community programs.

We believe in building a diverse, inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We encourage people of all genders, ages, religions, disability, sexual orientation, family and caring responsibilities and cultures, including people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, to apply.

Our Youth and Community Service workers empower and inspire our young visitors, providing them with a safe space to grow, learn and have their voice heard.

From our Program Coordinators and Youth Workers to all our wonderful Volunteers - our team work tirelessly to create meaningful opportunities for young people experiencing disadvantage.

As part of The Y family, you will be responsible for the care and safety of our young community and impact their physical, mental, and social wellbeing for the better. In return, we will support you to build valuable people, leadership, and life skills all while working with people in need, from the comfort of our dynamic recreation facilities.

If you are ready to engage and inspire the next generation of young people, join us for a rewarding and exciting career that is all about creating life-changing memories for those who need it most.

Commitment to Safeguarding

At the Y, we are committed to empowering all Children and Young People to feel safe and be safe, at the Y, in their families and in their communities. As such, we embed Safeguarding into everything that we do to make sure Children and Young People are kept at the front of our minds in all our programs and services. We also ensure that all our candidates are appropriately screened to make sure that the right people are in the right roles to keep our children and young people safe.

About the role

The successful candidate will support our ‘Streetgym' initiative that provides young people (12 to 18 years old) with an opportunity to engage in activities in their own neighbourhood as well as work on personal, social, and educational development aspects of their lives.

The successful candidate will also support the delivery of Alternative Suspension. A program to address educational disengagement and the underlying causes, establish ongoing support pathways and plan successful returns to school for students currently on, or at risk of, school suspension.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering programs and activities that promote the well-being and growth of youth in the Broken Hill community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement engaging programs and activities.
  • Provide individual and group support to young people, addressing their needs and concerns.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive environment where all youth feel valued and respected.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as schools, local council, and community organisations, to provide comprehensive support.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make necessary adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of youth participation and progress.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of young people within the community.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering programs and activities that promote the well-being and growth of youth in the Western Sydney community.

Your passion is to positively impact young people's lives by helping them navigate challenges and achieve their potential. You do this by creating supportive communities and fostering a sense of belonging among young people.

  • Formal qualifications in Youth Work, Psychology, or a related field.
