Our vision is equitable health care where everyone has access to affordable, quality and culturally appropriate health services. headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team work to improve health, social and vocational/educational outcomes for young people. About the position The Elders in Residence program is a partnership between GPH Aboriginal health Team and headspace Goulburn and Yass. The aim to support engagement for Aboriginal people in GPH programs by providing safe, appropriate and inclusive services. Reporting to the Service Manager for Goulburn and Yass, the Cultural Leader will received supervision and support from the Aboriginal Health team. The Cultural Leader will provide advice and support to the staff at headspace Goulburn and Yass and the wider GPH teams. They will also work directly with young people to help develop connections between local Aboriginal young people and their community and to support engagement with the headspace Centre and with work and study opportunities. What you'll need
- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be an active member within the Aboriginal Communities of the Goulburn and Yass Valley region and surrounding areas.
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or health related discipline or willingness to work towards.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people and their health and ability to effectively engage, and communicate sensitively, with Aboriginal people to address their health needs.
- Experience in developing and maintaining successful partnerships with Aboriginal organisations and Communities.
