Position Purpose:
The Community Liaison Officer is a key role within MHSL, aimed at facilitating and supporting information sharing between MHSL, clients, and healthcare partners. This position is pivotal in building and maintaining communication pathways that promote holistic health and well-being for our clients. The role creates new opportunities to provide quality service and optimal healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Far North Queensland communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide practical assistance, support, and advocacy for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their families.
- Serve as a liaison for patients of MHSL healthcare facilities referred to the Community Liaison Officer Service.
- Coordinate and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients to ensure continued quality care and improvements in health outcomes.
- Build and maintain effective communication pathways between MHSL, clients, and healthcare partners.
- Travel throughout the geographic service area of MHSL as required to fulfill the duties of the position.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in providing support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families.
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the challenges faced by these communities in accessing healthcare.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel within the service area of MHSL.
This is an Identified position. It is a genuine occupational requirement that an Identified position be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, as permitted by and arguable under section 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).
