The Opportunity
A six-month opportunity has become available within Council’s Community Development Team.
Reporting to the Community Development Coordinator, this position will work in partnership with the Councillors, community and other levels of government to develop and build community capacity through the provision of effective, responsive and innovative community development initiatives, providing information and access to services, networks and resources relevant to community development issues.
The position will also provide specialist advice to Council on social policy and community development issues.

About You
To undertake this position, you will have significant experience working with community groups and organisations in a similar environment.
You will display demonstrated community planning, development and project management experience.
Furthermore, but not limited to, you will have knowledge of relevant government policy and funding programs as well as the demonstrated ability to identify and secure funding to improve community outcomes.
The position's focus will be:
- Engage with Councillors, community leaders, government departments and not for profit organisations to research, identify, prioritise, plan and coordinate various community development initiatives and plans across the Shire.
- Work with community and not for profit organisations in the Noosa Shire to build partnerships and assist their long-term sustainability and financial viability.
- Provide advice and assistance to community organisations and individuals in accessing services and grants programs offered by Council and external agencies.
- Research social and community trends and needs in order to provide strategic advice to Council and to inform the development, implementation and review of Council’s social policies particularly those relating to community development.
- Participate, in regional, inter-governmental, cross Council and community planning networks and, where appropriate, maximise the opportunities for cooperation, partnerships and promoting key community development initiatives.
- Assist the Noosa community’s recovery from a disaster event. Importantly, this role is the Deputy to the Human Social Welfare Recovery Group Chair.
- Contribute to the provision of reports and recommendations for Council’s consideration on relevant community development issues.
- Facilitate the activation of new Council owned community infrastructure and provide advice on existing community infrastructure and associated tenure arrangements in liaison with relevant Council officers.
- Research, identify and apply for external grant opportunities for Council for improved community outcomes as approved by the Community Development Coordinator.
- Such other relevant duties as required from time to time which would generally fall within the scope of this position.
