The City of Onkaparinga values the contribution made by our volunteers and seeks to create an environment where volunteers and volunteer coordinators feel engaged and appreciated. This role plays integral part in increasing our volunteering profile within our organisation and the community.

Volunteers in our organisation are aligned to volunteer positions within volunteering programs. Each program is managed by a Volunteer Coordinator, who is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and leadership of our volunteers.

The Volunteer Involvement Advisor is responsible for

  • providing support to Volunteer Coordinators,
  • volunteer governance framework (e.g. policies, procedures),
  • volunteer marketing, recruitment, and onboarding, and
  • maintaining volunteer records and systems.

About You

Your energy, positivity and passion for people and community will enable you to support our leaders and volunteers throughout the entire volunteering lifecycle.

You will understand the value of volunteering and contribution made by our volunteers, as well as the complexities of leading volunteers throughout the volunteering lifecycle. Ideally, you will have experience developing or maintaining systems aligned to Volunteering Australia National Standards, legislative requirements, risk management frameworks and internal procedures, or similar experience working with employees in a highly regulated environment.

You will have a problem-solving mindset, with a natural ability to communicate and build rapport with customers. Key to your success will be your ability to multi-task in an operational setting.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated experience partnering with leaders to attract and retain volunteers or employees.
  2. Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders, negotiate and resolve complex issues and make effective recommendations and decisions.
  3. Highly developed interpersonal skills, including presentation, facilitation, consultation, negotiation, coaching and engagement.
  4. Understands volunteer management methodology and frameworks, including the differences between volunteer and employee management.
  5. Proven ability to build networks and leverage partnerships to gain insights and expertise, strengthening decision-making and driving better outcomes.
