About the Role:

This is a key leadership role where you will ensure payroll operations align with industrial agreements, legislative requirements, and organisational policies while meeting critical deadlines.

This organisation processes two fortnightly pay runs on alternating weeks-one for approximately 70 employees and another for 200 employees. While experience with Aurion HR/Payroll system is beneficial, it is not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily payroll activities to ensure timely and accurate processing in compliance with relevant agreements and legislation.
  • Assist the People & Culture Business Partner in the development and execution of strategic initiatives to meet evolving business and legislative needs.
  • Monitor and review workflow processes, recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Liaise with system providers and the IT department on payroll system administration, including upgrades, testing, modifications, troubleshooting, maintenance, and training.
  • Provide expert advice to leaders and staff on payroll matters, including superannuation and salary sacrifice schemes.
  • Coordinate with the Occupational Safety and Health team on workers' compensation claims, ensuring accurate processing and compliance.
  • Conduct regular audits to maintain compliance with industrial agreements, policies, and statutory requirements.
  • Identify financial risks and implement appropriate controls to mitigate potential issues.
  • Supervise and develop payroll staff, ensuring they receive necessary training and support to perform their roles effectively.
  • Work closely with the Finance Department to provide reports, reconciliations, bank transfers, and other essential financial data.
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements and legislative standards, providing necessary reports and recommendations.
  • Analyze and report on payroll trends, pay anomalies, and leave patterns, escalating issues as needed.
  • Respond to employee and stakeholder payroll inquiries, maintaining a strong customer-focused service approach.
  • Update and maintain payroll procedures and documentation to ensure robust, compliant processes.
  • Conduct payroll training and education sessions for employees.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including local governments, insurance providers, superannuation schemes, the ATO, and Aurion consulting.
  • Oversee secure storage and archiving of personnel records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Champion Equal Opportunity, Diversity, Work Health & Safety (WHS), and environmental sustainability within the workplace.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in payroll systems, policies, and practices.
  • Act in the best interests of the organization, customers, and the community, ensuring legislative and operational compliance.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the People & Culture Business Partner.

About You

  • To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • End-to-end payroll processing experience, preferably in a high-volume environment.
  • Proven ability to interpret Industrial Agreements, policies, procedures, and relevant legislation (including taxation, workers' compensation, and long service leave regulations).
  • Systems administration experience, including payroll system configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyse payroll data, identify risks, and implement effective solutions.
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and customer-focused service delivery.
  • All temporary contractors, Citizens or Working Holiday Visa put forward must have a valid Police Clearance check and Full Work Rights to work in Australia
