Natural Hazards Research Australia is seeking a Business Improvement Manager to join our team.

- Full-time, 12-month contract
- Based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney
- Flexible hybrid working conditions
- Salary range – $130,410 to $137,862 plus 11.5% superannuation
Natural Hazards Research Australia (the Centre) is Australia’s national centre for natural hazard resilience and disaster risk reduction. The Centre addresses the major challenges arising from natural hazards, including bushfires, floods, cyclones, heatwaves, storms and other hazards. The Centre undertakes research that promotes resilience to the impacts of natural hazards and reduces disaster risk, supporting the needs of a variety of critical stakeholders – including emergency service agencies and communities – in mitigating impacts of, responding to and recovering from disasters caused by natural hazards.
Purpose of the position
Reporting to the Partnership Development Director, the Business Improvement Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the Centre’s commitment to delivering its vision and mission and ensuring the Centre continues to deliver value to its participants as a priority, and broader stakeholders.
This position is responsible for driving continuous improvement across the Centre’s teams by developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic business improvement plan.
With extensive stakeholder engagement experience, the Business Improvement Manager will work collaboratively with various teams to optimise processes, enhance service delivery, and ensure that key outcomes are achieved in line with the Centre’s strategic objectives.
We require a proactive individual with a strategic thinking approach, who has proven skills and experience in:
- project management with the ability to lead and deliver outcomes
- implementing and leading process improvement techniques and operational excellence
- managing the rollout of change initiatives, tackling resistance and promoting a culture of continuous improvement
- establishing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of business improvement initiatives
- successfully engaging stakeholders at all levels
- resolving complex issues
- identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies
- identifying emerging trends, tools, and best practices in business process improvement and innovation.
Selection criteria
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, engineering, or related field.
- Professional certifications in Business Process Management (BPM), Lean Six Sigma, or Project Management highly desirable.
Specific knowledge and experience required:
- Proven experience in business process improvement, ideally in a research, science, or public sector environment.
- Strong track record of implementing successful business transformation initiatives.
- Change management expertise and the ability to navigate organisational transitions.
- Experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders at various levels of the organisation and across different locations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and execute effectively.
- Strong project management skills, with experience managing complex initiatives.
- Exceptional persuasive communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with database management or customer management systems desirable.
Desirable knowledge and experience:
- At least five years’ experience in a similar, or related role.
