The Supreme Court of Victoria is the highest court in Victoria and comprises the Court of Appeal and the Trial Division. The Court deals with major criminal and civil matters, plus appeals against decisions of lower courts.

The Law Library of Victoria located in the Supreme Court of Victoria, provides excellent information services to the courts and tribunals in the Victorian jurisdiction and to members of the legal profession in Victoria.

About the Role

Offered on an 0.8FTE ongoing basis, the Library's Finance Officer is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Library's accounts. The Finance Officer also provides support in the preparation and provision of financial documentation and information for the Librarian and Library Committee.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Undertaking the full range of activities associated with Accounts Payable & Receivable including processing, preparing reconciliations and reviewing Library income and expenditure to ensure activity reported is accurate and in compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Advising on any financial issues encountered to improve the quality of the Library's financial reporting and decision making.
  • Providing assistance in the development, monitoring and review of budget and financial information, analysing variances and progressing sustainable corrective actions to support ongoing integrity of financial management systems data and alignment with organisational objectives and service delivery standards administered by the Library.
  • Providing accurate and timely information to the ATO regarding BAS and imputation credits.
  • Providing assistance in maintaining accurate financial and investment records.
  • Providing assistance in the development, monitoring and review of cash flow projections for the Library.
  • Undertaking review and analysis and preparing robust advice and recommendations on matters pertaining to the efficient use of budget, financial and other resources of the business.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of systems, policies, procedures and guidelines to support integrated planning activities, and for the monitoring and control of expenditure, revenue, and other monetary flows.
  • Preparing and coordinating information required to meet external reporting requirements from auditors, Court Services Victoria, or other parties in line with library policy and financial and audit practices.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with stakeholders including SCV staff, senior management, judicial officers, CSV Jurisdiction Services representatives and suppliers.
  • Actively contributing to the library team and demonstrate commitment to the successful implementation and ongoing development of the Law Library of Victoria.

About You

  • Experience in managing MYOB
  • Bookkeeping experience and ability to balance to trial balance level
  • Experience in preparation of budgets and cash flow projections
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use technologies such as Excel, online databases and Microsoft Office
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting or finance
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g. CA / CPA)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
