Your future is Energy Queensland

Energy Queensland, and our operational brands: Energex, Ergon Energy Network, Ergon Retail and Yurika, are at the frontline of progress. As Australia’s largest government-owned electricity organisation, we serve people and communities across the state and beyond.

Here, you’ll help us deliver reliable energy solutions for our two million customers.

Our Business Services Division has a 12-month fixed term opportunity for a Senior Financial Analyst to be located at Brisbane (Newstead) or Townsville.

Your opportunity

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you’re responsible for transforming EQL’s financial data into clear, insightful reports essential for guiding business decisions and fulfilling the reporting obligations of EQL’s Executive Committee, Board and shareholding Ministers. You prepare the Monthly Performance Report, Quarterly Shareholders Report and the annual Statement of Corporate Intent and Corporate Plan.

Your role isn’t crunching and journalling the numbers, but understanding those numbers and what they mean for our business and using them to shape the strategic direction of EQL. You synthesise data from various sources including income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements, converting it to visually engaging reports that provide actionable insights to improve our financial performance.

Working closely with our Chief Financial Officer and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), your insights and recommendations have a direct and tangible impact on the financial health and strategic growth of our business.

While your primary focus is corporate and financial reporting, you also have the opportunity to be involved in treasury activities in your day to day, broadening your financial skillset. You undertake various tasks from developing cash flow forecasts to performing detailed variance analysis, to help keep a close eye on EQL’s daily banking and liquidity and ensuring our financial stability is maintained.

The remuneration for your new role is from $158,595 per annum + 14.75% superannuation for a 9 day fortnight or from $179,213 + 14.75% superannuation for a 10 day fortnight.

What’s on offer?

At Energy Queensland, we believe in supporting every aspect of your career and personal life. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Get paid to play: Annual leave loading and salary sacrificing means more spending money in your pocket.
  • Need wheels: Novated lease options for personal use.
  • Bonus memberships: Access to Corporate Health memberships, Fitness Passport and professional memberships.
  • More time for you: Achieve a healthy work-life balance on a 72-hour, 9-day fortnight roster.
  • Leave for real life: Access to additional health and wellbeing, culture and diversity leave options.
  • Personalised professional development: Opportunities to invest in technical and business disciplines, exposing your career to current, emerging and future technologies and best practice.

What you’ll bring

Ideally, you’re degree qualified in either Finance, Accounting, Business, Commerce or another related discipline. If you happen to be CPA or CA qualified, this is a significant advantage, however it’s not a mandatory requirement.

You have a solid background in financial analysis and reporting, and while you don’t need to be a traditional accountant, you exhibit a thorough understanding of financial systems and controls and the ability to accurately assess and interpret financial documentation.

You’re an analytical thinker with a proven ability to generate recommendations that solve issues and improve business performance.

You have a demonstrated track record in translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights and presenting this information to non-technical stakeholders to ensure understanding.

You’re highly proficient in desktop computing and finance applications (including Excel and other reporting design tools) to synthesise, summarise and present data effectively.

You’re comfortable working closely with senior executives and your well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (particularly written) ensure your ability to build productive relationships and influence decisions at this level of the business.

What matters most? For us, it’s our values:

We’re Safe – We Belong – We Grow – We Deliver.
If you’re going to be a part of our team, these should matter to you, too.
