ROLE

The Learning & Development officer is responsible for contributing to the ongoing development, planning, coordination, delivery, assessment and record keeping requirements for ASIS training. With a strong focus for continuous improvement, the officer will be required to build and maintain strong relationships with teams to ensure currency and relevance of training.

The L5 Officer will be part of a team developing and/or delivering effective training programs for ASIS. They will be responsible for the development, preparation, maintenance and/or presentation of learning and development activities under limited direction from senior staff. They will exercise discretion and sound independent judgement in making decisions and providing advice to stakeholders.

The role requires a dynamic team player who enjoys working with stakeholders, team members and individually on projects. You will be able to meet tight deadlines and work to support ASIS priorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

The following is an overview of key responsibilities and tasks:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of effective training programs for ASIS which may include:
  • Contributing to the development, delivery and evaluation of specific training programs;
  • Contributing to the improvement of training policies, business processes and systems within the ASIS Learning & Development Branch;
  • Providing quality client service and resolving client issues in an efficient and courteous manner; and
  • Coordination, administration and facilitation of quality training materials and related documentation, including the maintenance of Electronic Learning Management Systems.
  • Liaise, support and build rapport with trainees and other stakeholders, and maintain effective relationships with management and staff.
  • Build effective relationships with all team members as well as other teams within the Branch, empowering them to deliver results.

CORE SKILLS

The following is an overview of skills required to succeed in the role:

  • Work under limited supervision as part of a learning and development team contributing to the development and/or delivery of effective training programs for ASIS in accordance with best practice and relevant policy and guidelines.
  • As part of a team, make effective use of individual and team capabilities to provide a specialist service focused on operational outcomes.
  • Contribute to compliance, including risk management and mitigation.
  • Contribute to reporting for key internal and external stakeholders and assist in formal reporting as required.
  • Develop, prepare, maintain and present quality training materials and related documentation.
  • Evaluate training and capability audits and contribute to the improvement of training, policies, business processes and systems.
  • Pursue, develop and maintain effective client/customer and internal/external stakeholder relationships by collaborating with operational and corporate branches and teams to understand their training needs and develop and implement relevant solutions.
  • Use expertise, good judgement and in-depth knowledge of the organisation, branch, role and functions to anticipate training issues and to contribute to the development of key improvements and resolution of queries as they arise.
  • Develop subject matter expertise through engaging with relevant industry/academic bodies to ensure currency and enable analytical collaboration and cooperation, and by contributing to the development of standards, policies, procedures, guidelines, technical capability and training.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The following education, qualifications and/or experience will be highly regarded but not essential:

  • Qualifications in teaching or Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or a willingness to gain these skills);
  • Experience in the delivery of training courses;
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and/or administrative support; and,
  • Experience in developing and maintaining successful client/customer relationships.
