This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced Counsellor at our Open Place Richmond team as part of Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV).

Open Place is a support service for ‘Forgotten Australians’ Victorian pre 1990 Care Leavers and coordinates and provides direct assistance to address the needs and issues of people who grew up in ‘care’. Open Place helps people to deal with the legacy of their childhood experiences and to support them to improve their health and wellbeing.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, your responsibilities will include the provision of high-quality counselling and support services to Forgotten Australians and their families. You will work collaboratively, assisting Forgotten Australians with brokering counselling arrangements within their local area. You will also facilitate group work programs, including social and support groups at Open Place and in community settings, as required.

This role is based at our Open Place Belgium centre in Richmond and is permanent, full-time. The base salary range is $ 95k-$ 102k per annum.

About you

  • Degree in counselling, social work, psychology or a related discipline.
  • Post-Graduate training is required (trauma, development, family therapy, etc.) and must hold or be eligible for trainee or clinical membership of relevant professional association.
  • Ability to provide counselling and support services to adults and families, especially those who have survived immense childhood disruption and ongoing trauma.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to negotiate and liaise with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in providing secondary consultation to counsellors, as well as to non-counselling staff and families.
