The purpose of this role is to coordinate wellbeing structures and practices to support students and staff in this school. Accountabilities
- Abide by the Schools Code of Conduct which expect and require staff and visitors to ensure the protection of students
- Fully support the school’s Child Safe Policy for the prevention of student abuse by identifying risks early, taking all allegations and concerns seriously, reporting to appropriate staff who have specific responsibilities regarding Child Safety to remove and reduce risks to all students at Camberwell High School
- Provide counselling to students and staff as required,
- Provide referrals to other support agencies where necessary
- Provide positive school programs across specific levels that promote student wellbeing
- Provide support to parents, students and teachers (particularly teacher mentors) in the provision of appropriate wellbeing programs and strategies in both junior and senior School
- Liaise regularly with School Wellbeing Team regarding matters relating to wellbeing
Role Responsibilities
- Provide counselling and support to students where appropriate and ensure the promotion of wellbeing across the school
- Lead the development and assist in the delivering positive classroom and extra curricula programs that promote and improve student wellbeing, safety, resilience, engagement and connectedness across the school (e.g. peer support, restorative practice and personal development programs)
- Lead the implementation of the Student Engagement and Wellbeing Policy in consultation with the Sub Schools
- Collaborate with House Leaders, Student Learning Leaders and classroom teachers to develop individual program plans for identified students to address their personal needs
- Provide information and advice to parents and students upon request, including coordination and referral to DET Student Support Services, other Government agencies and alternative education/training/employment programs
- Assist Sub School Leaders, House Leaders and the Careers staff with the transition of new students to the school and when exiting CHS to alternate pathways
- Provide information and feedback to the Junior Sub School Leader regarding individual student’s needs, issues and concerns and assist in the development of effective learning programs that can be implemented for students at risk
- Assist students and their families, who require financial assistance in the form of maintenance or student allowances for school, excursions and/or camps, books and uniform
- Provide weekly and confidential feedback and updates to the Principal class about students and staff being assisted
- Participate in meetings of local and/or networks of school wellbeing staff as are seen to be appropriate
- Creation of school-based support plans for students with inclusion needs
- Coordinate and support the implementation of disability inclusion and funding applications for students who meet tier three criteria
- Coordinate disability inclusion profile meetings and upload relevant documentation as required
- Coordinate with external program providers and evaluating the effectiveness of the program based on the needs of the student.
- Supports teachers in the coordination of educational programs independently or under minimal supervision, providing routine co-ordination, guidance, and support to other student support staff, liaising with external providers of support services about clearly defined support needs and resources, assisting teachers with the communication of student outcomes and educational programs
Other Information
- It is expected that applicants will hold suitable Counselling/ Social Work qualifications. Membership of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) is desirable.
