Position: Full-Time (0.8) | 12-Month Fixed Term

The Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault (GCASA) delivers vital support services across Gippsland, addressing the needs of individuals impacted by sexual assault. The Opportunity
As a REFOCUS Counsellor/Advocate, you will:
- Provide trauma-informed counselling and interventions to children and young people with disabilities and their families.
- Perform client assessments, risk management, and care coordination using evidence-based approaches.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver holistic support services.
- Contribute your expertise to enhance GCASA’s disability services and quality improvement initiatives.

What We Need From you
In order to be considered for this role, please provide a written response to the below key selection criteria with your application. You will need to show understanding of each requirement and how you align to each with your experience and qualifications.
- Degree or tertiary level qualification, or equivalent certification, from a nationally accredited provider, in fields such as social work, social welfare, counselling, creative arts therapies, or community mental health nursing.
- A minimum of 2 years recent experience working with children and young people with a disability and their families, and a demonstrated and comprehensive understanding of child developmental theory and experience.
- Knowledge related to the incidence and impact of sexual assault, as well as an understanding of the gender dynamics that support the occurrence of sexual assault.
- An understanding and application of theoretical frameworks underpinning trauma – informed engagement and behavioural support for children and young people.
- Possess well-developed client record keeping capacity, including case noting, administrative and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task and use a broad range of computer and IT skills.
- Knowledge of the legislative requirements governing the collection and storage of personal information; client confidentiality and the protection of all GCASA clients.
- Willingness to travel across our service areas as and to Melbourne for professional development if relevant. Staff must hold a current Victorian driver’s licence.
