The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring efficient and smooth running by managing processes, optimizing resource allocation, monitoring performance, and implementing improvements to achieve the company’s strategic goals.
The Operations Manager role is “hands on” and includes hiring and training staff and quality control across all aspects of production. The successful candidate will work on the Production Floor from 4am to 2pm Monday to Friday as well as communicate effectively with the rest of the Management Team.
They will also have a deep understanding of customer requirements and will participate in formulating and managing the budget to maximize productivity and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Planning and Execution:
Develop and implement operational strategies, set performance metrics, and monitor progress to ensure goals are met.
- Staff Management:
Hire, train, and supervise operational staff, assign tasks and provide performance feedback to maintain high team efficiency.
- Process Improvement:
Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in existing processes, design and implement improvements to streamline operations, reduce costs and eliminate errors.
- Quality Control:
Establish and maintain quality standards across all operational activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and customer expectations.
- Budget Management:
Prepare and manage operational budgets, tracking expenses and ensure cost-effective operations.
- Resource Allocation:
Optimize resource utilization by managing inventory levels, equipment maintenance, and scheduling to maximize productivity.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
Gather and analyze operational data to identify trends, make informed decisions, and report key performance indicators to the executive team.
- Compliance Management:
Ensure adherence to Food Safety Plan and HACCP standards within the operations.
Required Skills:
- Leadership and Management Skills:
Ability to motivate and guide teams, build consensus, and resolve conflicts effectively.
Ability to operate co-operatively as part of a small executive team directly responsible for the performance of the business.
- Analytical Skills:
Strong data analysis and interpretation skills to identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions.
- Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to manage production schedules, shift planning, and resource allocation in a dynamic environment.
- Organizational Skills:
Excellent time management and ability to prioritize tasks effectively to manage complex operations.
- Communication Skills:
Clear and concise communication to effectively convey information to staff, stakeholders, and leadership.
- Technical Proficiency:
Understanding of relevant operational systems, software, and technology.
Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot operational issues.
Relevant Experience:
- Prior experience in a supervisory or management role within the meat or food processing industry.
- Proven track record of successfully managing operational teams and able to demonstrate budget management skills and examples of efficiency improvements.
- An understanding of customer requirements in the restaurant sector.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or other process improvement methodologies would be beneficial.
