Gippsland Southern Health Service (GSHS) is a major provider of healthcare in the South Gippsland Shire. With two main acute facilities based at Leongatha and Korumburra, GSHS offers a broad range of specialist, general, acute, subacute, ambulatory, residential aged care and community services.

About the Role
GSHS is currently seeking an experienced Ward Clerk to join our dynamic and friendly General Ward team at our Leongatha hospital on a part-time (18 hours per fortnight) basis. The successful applicants will provide administrative, clerical and reception services to the clinical staff in our General Ward, and will also have the opportunity to work across other departments and campuses when required. The incumbent will be required to work on a rotating roster, and must have night and weekend availability.

As a Ward Clerk in General Ward at GSHS you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting clients to access information needed to support informed decision-making and informed choices in relation to their care/service.
  • Providing a warm and inviting welcome to all visitors to the ward and provide general (non-nursing) assistance to meet their needs.
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times, whilst respecting the values, culture, wishes and vulnerability of clients by complying with GSHS Privacy Policies in relation to the obtaining, accessing, security, use and disclosure of private and health information.
  • Reporting client problems/concerns promptly to assist effective resolution of complaints.
  • Undertaking all non-nursing administrative tasks as directed by the Nurse Unit Manager, including assisting with replacement staff as required, assisting with appointment booking, maintaining medical records, filing and photocopying, and answering and transferring phone calls.

About You
Applicants should possess the following experience/qualifications:

  • A minimum 12 months experience in a similar role.
  • Be able to communicate in an efficient, friendly and courteous manner.
  • Competent computer skills and knowledge of IPM.
  • Exercise discretion and confidentiality.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Competent in organising, co-ordinating and prioritising various administrative activities to ensure efficient operational functioning of the position.

Staff have access to supportive staff mentoring, education and development programs. Salary Packaging is available for all staff. The successful applicant will be required to provide a current satisfactory police check.
