Cultivating Community is an accredited social enterprise and non-profit organisation. With 25 years' experience in community and communal gardens. We offer a variety of fee for service activities that are related to place making, social connections and opportunities to thrive including grounds maintenance, property upkeep, build and design services. Our social enterprise Hortus offers garden design, build and maintenance services with a focus on community spaces and settings. We have a variety of gardens and a rooftop garden where our team grow fresh cultural foods for the supply of our community programs and wider food literacy programs.

Our strategic refresh is near completion with emerging themes of being place based, evidence driven, co designed, environmentally responsible and a great place to work.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Grounds & Property Maintenance Worker is to provide high quality, safe and well-maintained spaces as directed by supervisors in the Maintenance Teams and other classification roles across the organisation. This will require tasks that use safe working methods and meet OHS standards.

You will work in the team across all sites requiring gardening maintenance and property upkeep with a focus on mowing, edging, weeding, pruning and removal of green waste from sites. Skills in repair and ongoing maintenance of outdoor amenities will be required. This role will also be key in the delivery of Hortus projects, which will require experience in building, landscaping and design. This is a physical role with a focus on practical work and maintenance, providing general labouring support and horticultural expertise in the gardens and other spaces.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintenance of green spaces to a high standard using mowers, brush cutters and edging equipment
• Repair and maintenance of outdoor amenities including, taps, gates, garden beds, pathways
• Support and develop Hortus projects, including garden builds and landscape design
• Removal of hard and green waste from garden sites working to a schedule within regions
• Support with working bees, tree pruning, communal areas and soil deliveries.
• Provide information relevant for reporting, evaluation, budget and cost creations and monitoring as required, including input into SWM for projects.
• Meet any quality assurance standards for maintenance work in our programs.
• Work within a budget and financial policies
• Maintain and contribute to safe environments to protect customers, team members and yourself in line with OH&S legislation and Cultivating Community policy requirements, help to mitigate risks
• Operate within the guidelines provided by any companies that commission our services including Homes Victoria

ABOUT YOU

• 2 years demonstrated skills in grounds, property and horticultural maintenance.
• 2 years experience in building, landscaping and garden design
• 2 years experience of general labouring
• White Card Trained
• Capacity to work outside doing physical tasks with endurance and hand eye coordination.
• Confident working with horticultural and building equipment including brush cutters, lawnmowers, power tools.
• Strong ability to develop good relationships and communicate respectfully with fellow team members, community garden members, customers, interns including community members who may be CALD, Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
• Lived experience of public social housing and additional language including Auslan desirable
• Additional OHS and tickets desirable for the role
