Operational Risk Lead

About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable professional to join its Operational Risk and Resilience team in an exciting, newly established role. Your primary mission will be to design, implement, and sustain an effective operational risk framework that aligns with APRA's CPS 230 requirements. This role is vital to ensuring our client’s ability to withstand, respond to, and recover from operational disruptions while managing risks tied to critical operations and key service providers. Our client is a regulated insurer with its office based on St Kilda Road.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders across Claims Operations, Policy Services, Underwriting, and Sales & Distribution teams to protect their operations and ensure resilience. Your key contributions will include:

• Framework Development: Establish and oversee an operational risk and resilience framework, including policies and procedures that comply with CPS 230 and integrate seamlessly with current risk management systems.
• Risk Identification & Mitigation: Perform thorough risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and threats, strengthening the organisation’s risk position.
• Control Assurance: Create and implement a controls testing and evaluation framework, ensuring the effectiveness of key controls and recommending enhancements where needed.
• Advisory Role: Act as the go-to expert on operational risk matters, offering strategic advice and support to internal teams.
• Reporting & Insights: Produce clear, actionable reports on operational risks and resilience activities for senior stakeholders.
• Leadership & Mentorship: Lead by example, mentoring team members and fostering a strong culture of risk awareness and accountability across the organisation.
• Team Support: Provide assistance to the wider Enterprise Risk team as required, contributing to collective success.

What We’re Looking For

• A degree in Finance, Business, Law, Risk Management, or a related area.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in operational risk management or assurance roles.
• Strong understanding of risk and compliance principles in the financial services sector.
• Knowledge and experience relating to CPS230
• Demonstrated ability to develop and formulate policies and procedures
