Research Assistants (7 Positions) - Global Ecosystems
As part of a major investment into advancing our understanding of the distribution and conservation of the world’s ecosystems, JCU’s Global Ecology Lab is partnering with the Group on Earth Observations to advance the development of the Global Ecosystems Atlas initiative. We have seven positions available for passionate early career researchers to join our team, based in JCU’s College of Science and Engineering, to contribute broadly to this initiative.
The positions are full-time for a fixed-term for one to two years.
- HEWL Level 5, $74,401 - $84,388 p.a. plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits.
- Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas.
- Level and length of appointment and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
About this exciting opportunity
You will join the James Cook University Global Ecology Lab and work, together with project partners at the Group on Earth Observations Secretariat and several international organisations, to advance the Global Ecosystems Atlas initiative (www.globalecosystemsatlas.org).
You will apply your skills in geospatial science, ecology and/or remote sensing to collaboratively develop an annotated training dataset that will support the global-scale mapping of the world’s ecosystems to advance our understanding of the distribution of ecosystems at national to global scales. You will be responsible for the collection of high-quality records of the world’s ecosystems, working closely and effectively within a collaborative team. Additionally, you will manage the collection and maintenance of biodiversity data, communicate with project stakeholders and contribute broadly to all aspects of the Global Ecosystems Atlas initiative.
What you can bring to the role
You will bring experience in the fields of ecology, geography or environmental science along with the technical skills required to work with ecological or geospatial data. You will be able to demonstrate a track record in collecting, managing and/or analysing scientific data. Your communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to work effectively within a research team, communicate widely with initiative partners, foster relationships across a range of national and international stakeholders and contribute to a vibrant research lab environment.
