The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Supervisor, Workforce Development to provide a critical role at Western Plains Correctional Centre within Corrections Victoria.
About the Business Unit
Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security prison focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi-purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities.
Western Plains provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Western Plains has advanced technology which improves security, streamlines operations and enhances connections for the people in our care.
Western Plains operates with three primary service teams: Workforce and Prison Services, Communities, and Safety and Operational Service which collaboratively deliver comprehensive services for people in our care, safety management, and corporate services. Through its innovative design and service model, Western Plains aims to create a thriving environment conducive to safety and positive behavioural change.
This role is part of the Workforce and Prison Services (WPS) team, a team dedicated to delivering essential corporate and ancillary services support to prison operational teams and prisoners. Leveraging the technical ability and professional expertise of trained subject matter experts, the team supports the smooth functioning of prison operations while prioritising prisoner rehabilitation and safety.
About the Role
The Supervisor, Workforce Development is responsible for providing professional, innovative and efficient services that support Western Plains Correctional Centre's key workforce development function, strategic goals and directions. The position provides leadership for the learning, development, and training function for Western Plains Correctional Centre, enabling opportunities for staff to participate in appropriate and relevant training and developmental activities.
The position will ensure compliance with the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) standards, oversee the coordination of trainers and assessors, and ensure alignment with the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) Learning and Development unit.
You may be required to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays and attend to urgent work as required. Appropriate remuneration will be applied for the above in accordance with the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2024.
Some of your duties will include:
- Work in partnership with the project team through the development, commissioning and operational phases of establishing the new facility.
- Provide development and learning opportunities to a new team, developing and maintaining a culture that supports innovation, service excellent and reflects the department's values and behaviours.
- Oversee a wide variety of training and professional development programs for the facility, including the design, delivery, and evaluation of these programs.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of competency-based training and assessment, including the ability to plan, manage and implement training solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to design, facilitate and implement a variety of training programs.
- Sound understanding of program evaluation techniques.
- Experience working with the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software (including Power BI) would be highly desirable.
