Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of our projects and ensuring the company’s financial processes operate efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong financial acumen, the ability to analyse data, and excellent communication skills to convey financial information to non-financial team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage project budgets and forecasts in collaboration with project managers, using historical data and market trends.
- Monitor and track project costs, including materials, Labour, subcontractors, and equipment, and compare actual expenses against budgeted amounts.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, payments, and follow-up on overdue accounts.
- Oversee cash flow management to ensure adequate funds are available for ongoing projects and operational needs.
- Prepare and file GST returns, payroll tax, and income tax returns while staying current with tax laws and regulations.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost reduction and revenue optimization.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting policies and standards.
- Support external audits by preparing financial information, assisting with fieldwork, and addressing auditor inquiries.
- Utilize accounting software and ERP systems for accurate record-keeping, reporting, and streamlining financial processes.
- Review project contracts and agreements for accurate financial representation and risk assessment.
- Identify potential financial risks in construction projects, including cost overruns and delays, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Effectively communicate financial data and insights to non-financial colleagues to align financial goals with project objectives.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience of minimum 3-4 years in a similar role, preferably within the construction or project-based industry.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
