Reporting to the Southern Regional Manager, the Specification Sales Engineer will pivot between the customer engineer community and the Southern Region Sales team. The Specification Sales Engineer will be responsible for supporting sales activities generated by the Southern Regional Manager. You will be required to liaise with all prospective clients with a view of designing, specifying and modelling appropriate technical solutions that meet the client’s needs.

To be successful in this exciting position, you will have a background in Civil Engineering and well developed communication skills and be able to develop solid working relationships with all stakeholders. This position will require close liaison with clients/prospects internal design engineers and business development teams. Experience in specifying and modelling stormwater solutions would be highly advantageous. A drivers license is essential to fulfil the requirements of this position.
The successful candidate will work closely with Ocean Protect’s Southern Region Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the local business development activities.
As an important member of a small and highly skilled team, you will have the drive and commitment to “make it happen” working closely with the company’s senior executives, industry partners and internal engineering personnel.
Your duties will consist of:
This is a professional business development function focussed on providing Ocean Protect’s prospective Engineering Clients (Customers/Clients here after) the best solution designs based on Ocean Protect products and services. This is a customer facing role being the representative of Ocean Protect to the Consulting Engineering sector and related prospects.
An important aspect of the role is to be responsible for the overall Ocean Protect relationship with the consulting engineering sector and maintaining relationships with key customers in the defined area.
The Specification Sales Engineer is to maintain relationships with the prospective customers with the objective of maximising Ocean Protect’s product uptake.
The Specification Sales Engineer is to:
- Represent Ocean Protect in the market in a professional manner.
- Provide technical support to the existing client base (Consulting Engineers) to ensure that Ocean Protects products become specified on plans submitted in development applications.
- Assist Ocean Protect sales representatives in providing technical support for new sales generated from competitor’s specified product opportunities.
- Build a client base (Consulting Engineers) using Ocean Protect products and services, including FMP opportunities.
- Optimise the business opportunities from existing clients and contractors as delegated.
- Provide accurate weekly sales forecasts or as required.
- Build a revenue pipeline that meets the budgets and quotas as defined from time to time.
- Identify, liaise, and present to Ocean Protect customers/prospects to determine the applicability of Ocean Protect products and services to their business.
- Work with Ocean Protect sales teams when requested to prepare proposals and respond to various tenders.
This role is ultimately responsible for developing the specification of Ocean Protect products and services within the territory.
Key Expectations
- Identify customers who could benefit from Ocean Protect products and services
- Contact customers (either cold or via a marketing driven lead) to understand the customer’s business and to determine the applicability of Ocean Protect products and services to that business.
- Meet with customers to further build relationships and use Ocean Protect engineering support and other pre-sales staff to prepare a solution for the customer.
- Identify key decision makers within the customer organisation.
- Prepare as required, the customer proposal and/or presentations.
- Run presentations to the customer of Ocean Protect products and services
- Obtain specification of Ocean Protect products with new and existing clients
- Provide technical support and assistance to sales representations
- Track all customer contact and progress, project status etc, using the current Ocean Protect CRM system, in line with directions from management.
- Manage customer expectations whilst maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Provide and follow-up all engineering design specifications.
- Arrange client workshops to help win business
- Represent Ocean Protect at trade functions and offer to speak at conferences or other profile activities
- Plan and present Ocean Protect initiatives to the customer
- Participate in the Ocean Protect Management Team as requested.
- Demonstration of personal and professional leadership.
- At all times, conduct yourself professionally.
The work is largely based in Melbourne with some activity in the broader Victorian Region.
