- The Benalla Community Food Collective (BCFC) Project aims to develop a strategic approach that unites and strengthens existing community food relief, food security, and circular food economy efforts across Benalla. The goal is to create a sustainable, coordinated, and efficient model that enhances the accessibility and reach of nutritious food for individuals and families most at risk.
- Provide funding to purchase essential equipment for the Benalla Homelessness Response Group, enabling them to deliver the “Welcome Kitchen Food Program.” This program serves wholesome, nutritious meals to those facing financial hardship, isolation, or homelessness. It offers weekly Sunday meals in a public space in Benalla and a catering team preparing homestyle meals for distribution to individuals and families throughout the Benalla LGA.
- Allocate funding to purchase equipment for Waminda Community House, increasing its capacity to cook and store community meals. This will support the delivery of their long-running Community Food Relief program, which has been providing essential food assistance for over five years.
- Support local volunteers and community groups by covering essential volunteer expenses, including police checks and transport costs, ensuring that these groups can continue their valuable work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and actively work in accordance with Waminda Inc's policies and procedures.
- Engage with existing food relief, welfare, community meals, and community garden organisations to assess current food relief initiatives.
- Create survey and collect data regarding distribution, donors, recipients, resources, and volunteer and organisational capacity.
- Establish and coordinate a Benalla Community Food Collective (BCFC) working group, including organising meetings and keeping detailed records.
- Identify and explore opportunities for resource sharing, such as catering equipment, food collection, storage, preparation, transport, and centralised volunteer registration and processing.
