About the role

Join us in a new role dedicated to empowering Port Lincoln's youth! As Youth Officer, you’ll be instrumental in implementing the Youth Action Plan, building strong partnerships with schools, organisations, and service providers. This role centers on advocacy, engagement, and communication, ensuring that Council’s initiatives align with and amplify the needs of young people through targeted projects, programs, and events.

What You’ll Do

Support the Youth Action Plan:

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring the Youth Action Plan to address key needs of young people in Port Lincoln.

Identify and Drive Key Focus Areas:

  • Pinpoint priority areas and strategies to support youth needs and align with council goals.

Build Strong Community Connections:

  • Foster relationships with local schools, youth organizations, and service providers to strengthen youth-focused initiatives.

Collaborate for Impact:

  • Partner with stakeholders to create joint initiatives that benefit young people, expanding opportunities for community engagement.

Engage and Advocate for Youth:

  • Facilitate open dialogue with young people, families, and community members to gather insights and recommend strategies to Council.

Raise Awareness of Youth Programs:

  • Develop and implement promotional strategies to highlight youth issues, events, and achievements, keeping the community well-informed of Council’s youth programs.

Integrate Youth Needs Across Projects:

  • Collaborate with Council departments to ensure youth interests are considered in planning and program development.

Contribute to Community Programs:

  • Support the planning and delivery of Community, Culture, and Recreation programs that involve or impact youth, ensuring these initiatives align with Council’s vision.

What You’ll Bring

  • Demonstrated experience in working with young people, including engagement and program development.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and collaboration with community organisations.
  • Effective communication skills in the resolution of minor matters.
  • Strong understanding of youth issues, trends, and best practices in youth engagement.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in the application of established practices and procedures.
  • Passionate about youth development and community engagement.
  • Collaborative, with a strong ability to work across departments and with external partners.
  • Innovative, with a focus on developing creative solutions to meet the needs of young people.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A valid, or willingness to get Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Completion of, or ability to complete, ‘Through their Eyes’ child safe training.
