About the role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Medical Secretary to join our team at Five Islands Orthopaedics in Wollongong, NSW.
This is part-time position is currently a 24-30 hours per week position which could lead to a full time position for the right applicant in the future.
Our new team member will provide vital administrative and secretarial support to our specialist medical practitioners and practice manager , ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our practice.
To thrive in this job you need to be a mature-minded, kind, friendly team member who will work collaboratively within our small team of two Orthopaedic specialists, two part time secretarial staff and one full time practice manager.
Although this practice is new, our longest serving doctor has been providing Orthopaedic services to the Illawarra for over 20 years.
As we have expanded with the addition of a 2nd specialist, we have the opportunity to offer a part time role with the potential for it becoming a full time role.
What you will be doing
- using Genie medical software
- handling patient enquiries and booking appointments
- responding to patient queries promptly
- maintaining accurate medical records and patient files
- organising and coordinating the specialist's schedule
- liaising with patients regarding pre-admission documentation and tasks
- managing regular and ad-hoc theatre lists at various hospitals- including gaining necessary approvals and paperwork from patients , employers and/or insurers
- issuing invoices and managing payments from patients, employers and/or insurers
- health fund billing through Eclipse and Medicare billing
- maintaining professional outgoing correspondence on behalf of specialist surgeon ( consultation letters, referrals)
- liaising with other healthcare professionals and providers
- providing a high level of customer service to patients
What we are looking for
- minimum 3 years' experience as a Medical Secretary - ideally in a specialist practice
- strong typing skills with excellent attention to detail
- proficient in using GENIE medical software
- previous Eclipse, DVA, Workcover and medicare billing experience for appointments and surgical billing
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to multi-task and prioritise tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment
- knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare industry regulations
- commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
- reliable and professional with attention to detail and excellent work ethic
