Role Overview:

The Head of Environmental Sustainability Partnerships is a vital senior leadership role dedicated to securing innovative sustainability initiatives and fostering strategic partnerships, with a particular emphasis on achieving outcomes through collaboration with government and the corporate sector.

Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and leadership team, and guided by the Board’s strategic intent, this role is crucial in advancing BSA's mission by transforming innovative, outcome-focused partnership project ideas into funded initiatives that leave a lasting legacy for our city.

The role will provide expertise and represent BSA at various government, industry, residential, business, and community forums, effectively communicating, educating and inspiring on sustainability topics to diverse audiences.

The role collaborates with technical experts, industry leaders, corporate partners, policymakers, and research institutions to enhance the delivery of BSA projects and initiatives. You will bring experience in sustainability, resilience, and environmental project leadership, including advocacy, design, delivery, and evaluation. You will have a deep understanding of complex environmental sustainability issues and a proven ability to develop innovative projects, solutions, and funding mechanisms.

As Brisbane heads into 2032 and beyond, sustainability and the natural environment are integral to the city's identity. This role is essential in ensuring that BSA's initiatives not only contribute to a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Brisbane, but also reinforce the regions commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, including waste, energy, water, and land-based environmental outcomes as key components of its legacy.

As part of the senior management team, you will demonstrate leadership and work collaboratively across the organisation, contributing to the overall strategic direction and success of BSA, while operating with a high level of autonomy and responsibility.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong leadership and management skills that contribute to BSA’s positive culture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain partnerships at all levels.
  • Comprehensive understanding of sustainability principles, environmental regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience in analysing complex data, assess risks, and develop innovative solutions to environmental and sustainability challenges.
  • Proficiency in researching and developing exemplar solutions and innovative approaches to environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Genuine ability to forge and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, non-profits, businesses, and community groups, to advance environmental and sustainability efforts.
  • Proven experience in sustainability management, environmental science, or a related field, with a track record of successfully translating projects from conception to funded delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Chief Executive Officer in developing and managing strategic partnerships and relationships with government, industry, and the broader community.
  • Represent BSA in a sustainability advisory capacity, seeking opportunities to provide expertise on sustainability, climate resilience, and environmental best practices.
  • Actively seek, develop, and build strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and brand opportunities through networks and industry that align with BSA’s strategy and vision. Manage existing partner/sponsor relationships, identifying opportunities for further collaboration and integration across BSA’s programs and initiatives.
  • Conduct research into sustainability, resilience, and environmental topics to identify new trends, markets, and initiatives that support the development of business cases and project proposals.
  • Lead the development, production, and promotion of partnership proposals, tenders, grant applications, project proposals, and presentations to promote BSA programs and projects in line with brand, corporate, and program objectives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of sustainability strategic objectives, action plans, policies, and initiatives. Establish and implement sustainability best practice processes, procedures, templates, specifications, and guidelines to be used across all BSA projects.
  • Provide expert technical advice and leadership across BSA, with a focus on innovative,
  • Research, develop, and implement sustainability initiatives for BSA, ensuring BSA is positioned as an industry leader for Brisbane 2032 and beyond.
  • Provide high-level advice and support to project owners, project coordinators, committees, the BSA Board, and relevant internal and external stakeholders (including Brisbane City Council).
