Join Our Team as an Experienced Supported Independent Living (SIL) Support Worker!

Are you a compassionate and experienced Support Worker with a passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals with complex needs? Do you have the skills to manage challenging behaviours and provide 24-hour support to participants in a supportive home environment? If so, we want you to join our dedicated team!

Sunflower Services, a dedicated NDIS provider in the Newcastle, Maitland, and Adelaide, is looking for an Experienced Supported Independent Living (SIL) Support Worker to work primarily with one participant who has complex psychosocial diagnosis'. While your primary role will be supporting this participant, you will also have the opportunity to work with our other amazing participants in a collaborative and supportive environment.

In this role, you will provide support and assist the participant in managing complex behaviours, including self-harm, suicidal tendencies, aggression, and absconding. You will work in a SIL home environment, where we provide 24-hour care, helping the participant with daily living, medication management, and implementing behaviour support plans. This role is suited to individuals who are experienced in managing crises and using trauma-informed practices to support people through challenging behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a team that provides 24-hour support for the participant within their SIL home.
  • Manage self-harm and suicidal behaviours, using co-regulation techniques and therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI).
  • Support the participant during periods of escalation, including instances of absconding and aggression towards staff.
  • Assist in implementing restrictive practices where necessary, in line with NDIS guidelines.
  • Manage medication and ensure adherence to the participant’s prescribed treatment plan.
  • Participate in buddy shifts with regular support workers and complete Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) training prior to your first shift.
  • Work with the participant’s BSP to manage complex behaviours and implement strategies effectively.
  • Practice co-regulation and TCI techniques to support the participant during times of crisis.
  • While your primary responsibility is to support this participant, you will also have the opportunity to work with other amazing participants within the team.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience working with individuals with complex psychosocial diagnosis.
  • Proven ability to manage self-harm, suicidal behaviours, aggression, and crisis situations in a safe, supportive manner.
  • Experience in medication management and understanding of clinical documentation.
  • Ability to implement restrictive practices in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Strong understanding of co-regulation techniques and therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI).
  • Commitment to trauma-informed care and a genuine desire to support people through complex needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
