Trentham Pharmacy is looking for a reliable, energetic and customer-focused Pharmacy Assistant to join our close-knit team.

This is more than a basic counter position. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, notices what needs to be done and follows tasks through without needing constant supervision.

You do not need previous management experience. However, you must be dependable, comfortable using computers and willing to take responsibility for the day-to-day presentation and organisation of the pharmacy’s retail area.

For the right person, this position offers the opportunity to develop into a senior pharmacy assistant or retail team leader.

The position is approximately 22 hours per week across four weekdays, generally between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. There is currently no regular weekend work.

What you’ll be doing

Welcoming customers and providing friendly, professional service

Assisting customers with pharmacy, health, beauty and everyday retail products

Receiving deliveries and ensuring stock is unpacked and replenished promptly

Maintaining stock levels and assisting with ordering

Monitoring out-of-stocks, overstocks, expiries, recalls and damaged products

Creating and maintaining attractive promotional and seasonal displays

Ensuring shelves, counters and retail areas remain clean, organised and well presented

Processing transactions and confidently using pharmacy POS and computer systems

Working with suppliers and representatives when required

Completing regular retail and housekeeping tasks

Supporting the Pharmacist and other team members during busy periods

Taking ownership of assigned responsibilities and following up unfinished work

What we’re looking for

The most important qualities for this role are reliability, initiative and personal responsibility.

You will ideally have:

A strong and dependable work ethic

A history of arriving on time and attending rostered shifts reliably

The ability to identify what needs doing and get started without waiting for detailed instructions

Confidence using computers, email and point-of-sale systems

Good organisation and the ability to prioritise competing tasks

A friendly and respectful manner with customers of all ages

The ability to work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail

A willingness to learn about pharmacy products, procedures and regulations

The confidence to ask questions when unsure and apply feedback afterward

The ability to work independently as well as part of a small team

The capacity to undertake the normal physical duties of a retail pharmacy, including unpacking deliveries, replenishing shelves and being on your feet during shifts

Previous pharmacy or retail experience would be helpful, but it is not essential for an applicant with the right attitude, computer confidence and willingness to learn.

S2/S3 training or other relevant pharmacy qualifications would be well regarded.

What success looks like in this position

Within the first few months, we would expect the successful applicant to:

Become confident using our pharmacy and retail systems

Complete regular duties with minimal prompting

Maintain a consistently presentable and well-stocked retail area

Communicate clearly when a task cannot be completed

Identify stock or presentation issues and take appropriate action

Build positive relationships with our regular customers

Demonstrate that the team can depend on them
